What to wear to a Day Out

Now that summer is well and truly in full swing, it’s time to focus on outfits for days out.

From Flower Shows, festivals to garden parties & County Shows- Cheshire has an extensive calendar of fabulous outdoor events.

Event Days out are a fantastic way to socialise whilst enjoying the great outdoors and mother nature’s catwalk.

This month Natasha is styling Toni, a Wilmslow based Transformational Hypnotherapist, Mindset Coach and Author of Flight to Happiness.

Although they are a loved, event days out can be tricky to dress up for.

But I have you covered-Think pastels or vibrant colours, teamed with florals alongside floaty yet sophisticated lines (and NO Jeans in sight) – Relaxed and glamourous!

If this is your first event day out, know that the main thing to mostly consider with outdoor event is that the weather and outdoor environment will play a huge part in outfit choice.  Outdoor events in the summer call for lighter, floatier materials and can be semi casual, however having different outfit options for the unpredictable weather will have you planning outfits with confidence.  It will be super easy for you to style what to wear to outdoor events with these factors in mind:

Colour pallet

Pastels or vibrant colours- If your event is mostly outdoor consider dressing in the colours similar to the outdoors environment.  Think about nature and the colours on show on nature’s catwalk in the summer- vibrant pinks, reds, greens and soft pastel pinks, whites, yellows, blues.  Opting for block colours or floral prints in soft pastels in your outfit would create an effortless look in a dress or trouser/blouse combination.  An all in white outfit as modelled by Toni is a great option for creating an effortless elegant look.

In summer especially around June/July, the gardens are in full bloom and the weather is gorgeous.  So why not bring elements of nature into your look by opting for an eye catching floral print for example.  Florals are very hot on the catwalks right now – the bolder the print the better! It’s certainly a popular choice for any event day out.  So if you have a beautiful floral dress that you’ve been waiting to wear, now is a great time to wear it with confidence!

Lines

A loose fitting silhouette will create a relaxed yet semi – formal vibe.  Opting for wide leg tailored trousers, linen trousers or culottes are great options if you’re not a dress kind of person.  Alternatively, sundresses are a fantastic option given that days out can mostly be spent outdoors - wearing something breezy, lightweight and comfortable is a must.

Dress/ skirt engthwise, think about what you will be doing throughout the day.  If you want to have more choice e.g. sitting on grass and chairs then opting for midi or maxi length would give you more flexibility of movement.

Footwear & accessories

Accessories are a great way to elevate your outfit for a more high end look and can also be used to dress down your outfit to create a casual vibe for the great outdoors.  For example, a straw hat and bag can be teamed with a floaty maxi dress or jumpsuit to create a casual vibe.  Whereas, adding a wide brimmed hat would dress up casual linen trousers.

Don’t forget the footwear- we have lots of options available beyond stilettos including flats, mules, espadrilles, wedges and sandals.  Personally, I love wearing a heel, so opting for wedges or block heel are fantastic comfortable options.

And of course- eyewear is a must for basking in the sunshine in style.  Opt for dark shade or cat eye for dramatic effect.  Or a circular shape with brown tones for a more casual effect.

Weather

Of course, with our changing Great British weather- layering is a must for a successful day out.  Make sure that the added layers compliment the outfit as well as work on a practical level.  A pashmina is a great option for when the sun goes into hiding, whereas a jacket would serve you well in case of a downpour.  On a hot summer’s day wearing floaty/breathable fabrics e.g. cotton or linen will keep you cool and can easily be layered up should the weather change.
