What to wear on a beach holiday

Summer is here and it’s time to turn up the heat when it comes to your warm weather wardrobe. A typical pain point for women this time of year is- what to wear on a beach holiday beyond your favourite swimsuit and basic cover up.

I’m here to tell you that taking your holiday wear to the next level is easy and does not have to be basic or boring. Holiday wear is often overwhelming to explore due to the need to wear less layers- what if you lack body confidence? How do you hide your body in the hot weather? It is possible to create flattering yet cool layers in the blistering heat.

When I think of holiday wear, I’m transported to beach, feeling happy and carefree. However, to achieve this you need to feel confident that your holiday style is beach ready. The aim is to create a capsule wardrobe that is flexible, adaptable and versatile with classic stylish pieces that will have you looking effortlessly chic and glamorous regardless of the holiday setting.

Capsuling is key! Think a mini version of your best summer wardrobe. So whether you’re on a girls’ weekend in Ibiza or a family holiday in the Caribbean- let me guide you through the essential pieces that will help you create a timeless capsule holiday wardrobe:

The Floaty Blouse:

Floaty blouses were made for warmer weather! Opt for classic white or cream to keep you cool and chic while you’re abroad.

This versatile piece can be easily teamed with wide leg trousers, skirts and shorts. I love wearing mine with statement wide legged trousers for a high end relaxed travel outfit or with denim shorts for a cool/fresh beach look.

The floaty blouse works really well, worn as a beach cover up- easily worn with your favourite swimsuit or high waisted bikini with an iconic hat.

The wide leg trousers:

A great alternative to jeans - as jeans are the last thing you want to be wearing in a hot climate. Being away is a great time to experiment with new looks, lines and pieces.

So ditch those jeans, joggers and leggings and opt for wide leg trousers instead. Teamed with a white T-shirt and sandals, they will give you a relaxed and comfortable look perfect for taking in the sights in the day. In the evenings, team them with a floaty blouse and wedges for a dressy look- perfect for a meal under the stars.

The Day To Night Dress:

Versatility is key for holiday style success, so opting for pieces that can be easily dressed up or down will give you more outfit options without the heavy suitcase!

The day to night dress is a great versatile option you can wear with trainers while out exploring and with strappy sandals as a chic evening look. Choose a style that can easily be styled into an evening look by just changing the shoes, adding accessories and your favourite lippy.

Midi to maxi length dresses are flattering, whereas asymmetric lines create a chic yet relaxed feel. Wrap dresses are a great option if you plan to indulge in delicious holiday food and yummy cocktails- the belt can be loosened as the holiday progresses.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

The flattering swimsuit

Your perfect holiday companion as it doesn’t take much baggage space! You’re likely to need a swimsuit or two to mix and match with different cover ups.

Bear in mind, everyone’s concept of the best swimsuit is different, whatever your choice- focus on comfortable, flattering, timeless and versatile styles. For example, a style including a plunge neckline and high leg will create a sense of longer legs and slimmer frame.

Built in shaping control will flatter your gorgeous curves and bolder colours or prints will take attention away from problem areas e.g. tummy.

I love having different styles of swimwear on holiday. For fun and versatility on the beach, I usually pack 2 swimsuits and a flattering high waisted bikini and teamed with floaty kaftans, sassy sarongs iconic hats and statement accessories- elevates the overall beachwear look. To further elevate your beach or poolside style opting for long line cover up or kimono will have you feeling glam on holiday- perfect for throwing over your swimsuit when you stop for lunch.

Top tips for beachwear confidence:

  • Aim to create a capsule wardrobe of key pieces that can be styled in different ways

  • Focus on packing versatile pieces that can easily be dressed up or down with a change of shoes/accessories

  • Be bold ad opt for iconing hats and statement accessories

  • Experiment with new styles whilst on holiday- nobody knows you (except your party) so minimal risk and fear of being judged.

  • Wear your bikini at the start of the holiday when feeling lighter and slimmer, then wear your swimsuit towards the end of the holiday when you are more likely to feel bloated.
